Meet Your Dog Walkers

Mell Holgate

I moved to the UK in 2016, I am a qualified Personal Trainer, and successfully ran my own business in sunny Australia for over seven years. After meeting my husband, selling my business and moving to Cambridge, I have worked in senior office-based roles in facility management and office management.

In 2020 I decided to retrain and follow a career that genuinely excites me... Dogs. I have always worked with dogs (privately owned) and have a strong affinity for all animals (just not snakes or spiders - another reason to leave Australia and head for new shores).

I am qualified in Canine First Aid, and I am currently studying a Level 3 - Diploma in Canine Care, Behaviour & Welfare.

I love the outdoors and am an active person with my hobbies being hiking, fitness, cycling and running, but mostly dogs.

Mhairi Shepherd

I have always been incredibly drawn towards dogs and animal care from the time I was a very young child. After begging my parents for a dog, I spent all my time training him and wondering if there was a way, I could work with dogs forever.

After studying Psychology and working a variety of sales and customer service roles, I realised my passion still lay with dogs and I decided to take the leap and retrain. I have recently finished my level 4 PETBc Canine Advanced Canine Behaviour Diploma with merit, and hold Level 3 Canine First Aid, Dog Law Certificate and Professional Dog Walking Skills Certificate. My dream would be to work for the mountain rescue and train dogs to help search for those who need help.

Dogs and humans have lived and worked alongside one another throughout history, and all owners know what a huge impact dogs have on our lives. My own dog Finn is just not enough for me - I cannot wait to meet each dog I will have the pleasure of walking.

Joe Barnes

I am originally from Lancashire, where I grew up surrounded by dogs, and since moving out of the family home I am definitely missing some canine company!

Having completed most of my master’s degree, I saw the opportunity to take on a part-time job that would allow me to spend time outdoors with dogs - what could be better? So, I jumped at the chance to come and work for Fetch Cambridge.

I have a lot of experience with dogs, having had at least one in the house since I was 6 months old, and I have worked at a kennels with a variety of different breeds.

I am qualified in Canine First Aid and Fully Insured.

Morgana Welch

Growing up in Norfolk, I've been lucky enough to gain a lot of experience working alongside animals, ranging from rearing ducklings to riding horses and voluntary days at the dog groomers.

We have always had a dog in our home ever since I can remember, and they have always been the centre of our family. I am now very lucky to have my very own dog, Muttley! Who is quite the handful but worth every second.

I Moved to Cambridge in 2022 to study Zoology at University, knowing full well a career with animals is what I would like to pursue, I am currently in my second year and very fond of the course.

Alongside my degree, I am completing online diplomas in ‘Pet Sitting and Dog Walking’ and ‘Canine Communication’ which is just one reason why I applied to work for Mell here at FETCH Cambridge, it seemed like the perfect opportunity!

I am also now fully insured and have my certificate in Canine First Aid.

Claire Martin

Dogs have always been a huge part of my life, from growing up with German Shepherd Dogs during my parents' time as Publicans, to now having my own wonderful dog, Ozzy, who was rescued from the streets of Romania in 2021. After spending my career so far within the retail sector, most recently as an Account Manager, in the last couple of years Ozzy has reignited my passion for working with and caring for animals, particularly dogs, using positive reinforcement and force-free methods.

I'm currently studying with the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT) to achieve my Level 3 OCN Accreditation in Canine Learning, Motivation and Reinforcement, and hope to become a fully qualified Dog Behaviour Consultant in the near future. I am trained in Pet First Aid and am fully insured and DBS checked. I also have experience in doggy daycare and boarding in a home setting.

I'm excited to be working with Fetch Cambridge to pursue this new career path and work with all your lovely dogs!

Andrea Malaskova

Having moved from the picturesque streets of Prague, where I worked as a professional dog walker for the past year and a half, I returned back to Cambridge to continue the journey and pursue my passion for working with dogs. Having walked multiple breeds, I prioritise the dog’s happiness and health above everything else. I am DBS checked, hold a Canine First Aid Certificate and have experience in boarding dogs in their home setting.

I grew up in Czechia in a small family estate, always surrounded by animals but dogs are, and always have been, truly my favourite. Seeing them being happy once they are out running and playing with their mates just makes my day. Living in the present moment, enjoying the simple things or being loving are just a few things that I think us humans should learn from them.

My own dog, a twelve year old Staffordshire bullterrier Stougie, whom I brought back to Europe all the way from sunny Brisbane (where I lived briefly), stayed by my side during all our adventurers and relocations. Now that we are finally settled back here in Cambridge, I am overjoyed to be working with Mell and her team at Fetch Cambridge.

A traveller at heart, I enjoy the outside, the greenery, the ever-changing weather. It is exciting being on the move and I cannot imagine anything better than doing so with a dog companion.
